Settling Debt For Less Than Owed

I agree with Chairman - however, if you've stopped payment for 5-6 months, your account would be assigned to a third party collection agency, and there's where you have a good chance at settling your debt - to 40-79%

Speaking of credit counseling (Debt Management Plan) - it's a program that negotiates down your interest rates so you can manage your payments & get to the principle amount much quicker. Debt settlement, on the other hand, negotiates your balance down - to more or less half.
