CCCS and husbands FICO

I want to get out of debt and I went to CCCS and signed up. But now I am worried that this will effect my husbands credit. I did not put him on any of the information. He and I do not have any joint accounts. The only things that have both our names are the marriage certificates and the deed to the house. He has his money and I have mine. I am just worried that this will have an effect on him. Please help!

As long as you haven't taken out a consolidation loan together, or any other actions that would show up on a credit report, I don't see why it would have any effect.

You're married, so when it comes down to it he is also legally responsible for any debt you have, but as far as his credit history, they prefer to keep this on an individual basis for some reason.  I don't believe it'll be affected by him being married now, or you working with CCCS.

Thanks so much Jeremy. Many people out there think that you should do it yourself. But many times when you talk to a creditor they tell you a bunch of non-sense and then the next thing you know your paying even more. Also most people say you should take out a loan, well, if you don't have any assets no one will loan you any money. Or you should just go into bankruptcy. So, I am getting counseling, instead of 7 years of nothing I will have 4.5. But, it's not like I would be able to get any credit cards or loans in that time anyway given my debt to income ratio. So, I am pleased to get another person verify what CCCS had said in the first place!

Thanks a Bunch!!!!

I noticed you said his name is on the deed to the house. Do you have a mortgage and if so, are both of you on it? This one little trade line may just be the one that puts your CCCS on his report. You need to ask CCCS if and how they reported you to the CRAs.

I'm not trying to scare you but this whole credit reporting scenario is pretty convoluted and you may find your info on his and his info on yours. Are you in a community property state?

Wait about 60 days after your initial sign up w/CCCS and both request a credit report from each of the major CRAs. That will tell you everything you need to know at least for that point in time.
