I imagine that goes on more than we realize. I do know someone who used loyalty points from some kind of card to get something before he filed. I guess that's not as blatant as charging something as a purchase.

This practice is quite common. I believe when the bankruptcy laws changed they were going to do more investigating to see if this was taking place, and if it was, the person could be denied the right to file. I haven't heard if this is truly the case, however. It makes me angry that people do this because you know we all end up paying for it in the long run.

There are really people who do that. I'd say they are the "professional debtors" who really have no intentions of paying whatsoever. It is certainly illegal but are there ways or regulations that govern that?
