In the past year or so, many young people I know, including our son, have joined the military to help pay down their credit card debt. Putting your life on the line to pay off debt seems like a drastic step, but it seems to be pretty common. I can see enlisting to serve your country, and even for the college and housing benefits, but it gets hard to swallow when people are going off to war to pay off credit cards.
that does seem a bit exssesive. there are lots of non-dangerous ways to pay off your depts. i guess it just seems like the easiest.
It's hard to resist the pull of a large enlistment bonus. When someone is offering you between 5-10 thousand dollars for a couple years of service, it seems like a good idea.
