The FTC & Identity Theft
The FTC has a page dealing with Identity Theft. It is at:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft// Their opening paragraph says:
This website is a one-stop national resource to learn about the crime of identity theft. It provides detailed information to help you deter, detect, and defend against identity theft.
I checked it out and will say it is very thorough. I hope that is of some help.
Here is a page entitled: Businesses Must Provide Victims and Law Enforcement with Transaction Records Relating to Identity Theft
and it is found at:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/idtheft/bus66.shtm If you have been a victim of identity theft, peruse this page. You may already know this information. Then again, maybe you don’t. Regardless, it is great info to know.
The FTC is actually a darned good site for this kind of information. The above may appear redundant but I don't think an identity theft victim would think it was.

Some of the advice and tips it provides on avoiding identity theft are pretty interesting. I understand one of the most common ways people find themselves a victim of identity theft is throwing out personal information in the trash. Then, a ID thief will find the info and compromise it.
The tips about avoiding the theft are intresting. Many people should watch and learn from the site about the tips in avoiding identity theft.
