how much credit card debt does the average american haveand how many file bankruptcy because of it?-- Wow Felipe, that's a complex question, and not being an economist or a banker, even a statistician... I don't know the accurate answer. However, I've read from one of the threads here, that the average Americans carry more than $8,000 in credit card debt.

So ... I think that before it gets to the point of filing bankruptcy or even considering it, the consumer should look into debt relief. The credit implication is not as huge as it used to. Creditors recently received a bailout package from the government to encourage them to be more receptive to consumers that are wanting to settle.
