how to negotiate settlements with credit card companies?- this can be done via the professional debt negotiators route (debt settlement company) or the-do-it-yourself way. Just make sure that your debt amount is significantly high and that your accounts are convincingly past due. Not sure if they'll talk to you if you're current.

how to negotiate settlements with credit card companies? -- if you;re wondering why you're account must be past due, it's because if the credit card companies think that you can pay anyway, they would not event talk negotiation with you. You must show that you can't pay anymore, propose what you can afford, in a letter, and make sure that, if you get an agreement, that it;s on paper and signed by the authorized person.

It really depends on what the consumer can afford. If he/she is enrolled with a settlement company, he/she would be encouraged or actually, forced to save a certain amount, to be used for bargaining. The company, as the consumer's representative, would say to the creditor - "okay, this is how much my client has ..." I heard though that if you;re doing it d.i.y. creditors settle for 75%

In the program you will be asked to save money on noteworld or your own savings account, and once you have saved enough money (and one of the credit card companies has agreed to a certain amount), the settlement company pays them off with a lump sum amount.

how to negotiate settlements with credit card companies? --if you're doing it yourself --If you are not yet past due or behind on your accounts - stop your monthly payments, until you fall behind. Creditors don't negotiate.Brace yourself for the creditor calls - ignore those because in 6 months time, they are required by the law to write off the account, and they usually turn over the account to collection agencies. (you try to settle with them instead of the creditors)Make an offer that you can afford. Start with a very low percentage, lower than 50% and expect it to be refused. You make another one, it might get refused too. The longer your debt sits there, the cheaper its worth become.Take your time.Tell them you're filing bankruptcy. If they budge, make sure to get everything in writing before you send in payment.
