Hey copy cat, you don't need help for your credit card issues from the government, there is a debt relief industry, that may have the right program for you - and they are affordable too. The monthly fees are, compared to your current ones, relatively reduced. Not only that, an enrollment with a debt relief program would also reduce your collection calls (if you're getting a lot, and note, not eliminate them altogether-just lessen them), and debt relief would save your credit from the effect of a bankruptcy.

The only help for credit card problems from the government so far is the passing of that credit card bill - now officially knows as - US Debt Relief Plan - the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Fact-Sheet-Reforms-to-Protect-American-Credit-Card-Holders/

Credit card help from the government - if you are a senior citizen or are facing a foreclosure, lawsuit, repo and in need of the automatic stay provision? BANKRUPTCY.

I agree with destiny, only - if your debt is unsecured - like credit card debt - it's not advisable to file bankruptcy as it stays on your credit report for 7 years (Chapter 13) and 10 years (Chapter 13) - plus 20 years on your public records. However, if you don't have much need for it, if you're a senior citizen, then you sort of have earned it. The government owes you that help. File bankruptcy also, if you're in a desperate situation that needs for all collection activities to cease for you - other than those two -choose the alternative. Look for the right debt relief program for you.
