What are the effective solutions for people in debt? I hear a lot of stories about failure with debt relief programs - why do they fail?

Re: In debt, solutions - debt relief - why do they fail? - not knowing the circumstancessurrounding those failures, I can only speculate that it started with bad credit/financialassessment/ bad counseling and perhaps they were given inappropriate advice - they took the wrong way..

What are the effective solutions for people in debt? - the previous posts weretalking about debt relief programs credit counseling and debt settlement. Those offerdifferent strategies and the only similar thing about them is - they deal withunsecured debts (credit card in particular). Depending on your debt amountand account status - and your determination to rid yourself of debt - I don't seewhy those programs won't work for you.

If your debt amount is not that high, less than $10,000, and you arestill current with your payments, you might want to try out credit counseling Debt Management Plan - the program is aboutnegotiating your interest rates. It would cost you $25/mo after a onetime set up fee - program runs from 3 to 5 years.

On the other hand if it is high, $10k and above, and you havealready defaulted on your payments (past due) - you might wantto have your entire balance negotiated down to more or less half viaDebt Settlement. Debt settlement can help you get rid of that debtin 3-5 years. Just stay with the program. Try to finish it. And rememberto choose a trustworthy company.

How to choose a company ?And could you give a list of companies?Also, what if i file bankruptcy instead of the debt solutions that you have mentioned?
