Government debt reduction plan - I'm guessing you are referring to debt reduction plans forindividual consumers? Sad to say, the government doesn't have any.

There maybe no debt reduction plan from the governmental but there are affordableand effective debt relief programs run by private companies. Depending on yourtotal debt amount and account status - these programs might just be the relieffrom debt that you're looking for.

I agree - if your debt is mostly unsecured -credit card -you can do either credit counseling or debt settlement. The advantage of getting into those programs is thatyou'd somehow have a guide or a partner in conquering yourdebt problems - as opposed to doing it all by yourself. You have probably attempted saving but have always succumbedto temptations or other pressures.

It's not that you can't do a debt reduction plan all by yourself -I'm sure that's not what misteranderson meant - what he's saying is thatto get the best deal out of the collection agency (which can be verymanipulative and cunning) might as well get the help of the pros.

misteranderson mentioned credit counseling and debt settlement - I don't knowthe difference. but my debt amount is over $20k and I've basically defaulted onmost of them - which is more suitable for my case? How much would it cost? What is the guarantee that it's going to work?

Hi there, of course there's no guarantee that the program would work. It's a combination of commitment and will power on your part - andthe reliability and experience of the settlement company - if ever it works. So choose your company well. Run a background check.
