Is debt settlement approved by the government?- you probably meant to askif it's accredited or regulated by the government - and the answer is no -it's a relatively new industry that's largely unregulated - but at some point,because of its increasingly important role in mediating between the creditor/collectorand the consumers, - and the industry's desire to prove itself useful -it might getthat regulation. Who knows.

Somebody should confirm this - but I heard that since mostcredit counseling agencies are owned by creditors - theysee the debt settlement industry as competition ..
