I agree, and there could be truth in that slogan - given the right debt relief programand the right company. There have been many cases of consumers claiming to bescammed by debt relief companies - which were proven to be true - but thosedon't mean that the debt relief industry as a whole is a scam. As with every industry -there are shady and opportunistic ones in credit counseling and debt settlement as well.So the consumers seeking debt relief - now - should do their homework. Checkthe company out.

For Credit Counseling Agencies (according to the BBB):-Before you select a credit counseling agency ask for information on the following:-Are the agency services confidential?-Will they devise a plan tailored to fit your needs?-Are the counselors certified?-Are budget and credit education opportunities offered?-Will your funds be protected? How?-Is the agency accredited?-Aside from BBB membership (www.bbb.org) the consumer should also check its affiliation with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling  http://www.nfcc.org.
