I incured some student loan debt that I have since consolidated and have sought some help from debt relief
resources, but have a question about scholarship and other ways to pay off student loans. The loan couseling that I received from the school I went to talked about joining some sort of voluteer group that will then reduce the debt owed when service is given, also I have seen a number of "scholoarships for dads" or "Obama wants you get an education" type ads on face book and have wondered about those. I have clicked through some of them and noticed the the "schoarship" can be used to play off student loans. Does anyone have experience with this? I have googled the name of some othese scholoarship websites and don't see much about them - they seem kinda hinkey. So, are there 'scholarships' out there to pay off loans?

Hi samcar, I am not sure about other fedral-sponsored student loan aid (I do not know what the official term is) other than the public-interest jobs in what the government considers as the lower end locations of the country. Understandably, not many want that job, not only is the location depressing but the pay is not something to be desired as well. So to recruit workers, the governmenta -- offer loan-repayment assistance plans in return for these workers commitment for at least a year or two.

A year or two? Would that cover ALL the student loan debt?

I think it depends on the debt amount and the agreement? I probably should havesaid "at least a part of the debt" because there's what they call the full loan-repayment assistance, and again, it depends on the agreement/contract. Its fulfillment depends on whether or not the entire service period was served.

I might have seen somewhere around here that if the student loan is private ... & the accountgets passed on to a collection agency - that the debtor can do debt settlement. Can somebody please verify?
