Not necessarily, I just read an article about debt resolution services that alarming the Consumer Federation of America ... particularly the "debt resolution service ads" they say. They could be talking about debt settlement.

I agree with you there. I've read that article too and have spoken with a former debt negotiator (for a settlement company) and he said that those articles are probably pro credit counseling (or the supposedly non-profit debt relief group) and against debt settlement (or the profit oriented debt relief industry).

But webkouza could be on to something there when he/she asked if debt resolution is handled by lawyers(?) -- or if it goes through the court. Some creditors, before the account gets written off, do take legal action against the consumer - and some consumers run to debt settlement companies to fix it for them. The debt settlement company after assessing how much the consumer can pay would then negotiate with the lawyer hired by the creditor - to arrive at an agreement or a resolution. I don't know. The term debt resolution sounds vague.

I found a movie clip to explain about the different between two programs. It says that resolution is handled by lawyers and force to settle 60% of the face amount rather than negotiation by settlement agentshmmm. is that established definition of Debt Resolution, or just a business name?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bSbx7TOYgM

I' ve used a company name International Debt solutions. They have helped me banish my credit tremendously. I loved the added security that They where back by lawyers in all states so that there was no chance of me being sued by creditors. Most companies that I have considered where not legally backed up. The website is

Debt Resolution is an
Attorney based program. It's not very different from
Debt Settlement except from the fact that the Attorney has the
fiduciary obligation to perform negotiations in the best interest of his/her client. Also, when an attorney approves
financial hardship on behalf of his/her client and he is able to settle an account for less of the principal balance, the client doesn't need to declare that as income, and thus pay taxes. With the new ruling of the
FTC, Debt Settlement companies will not be able to charge
fees up front because they can not guarantee results, attorneys in the other hand have more at stake and will perform better, legally they still can help you. My name is
Richard Castle, if you have more questions about anything most probably I will have the answers. Feel free to send me an email at: ricardo@consumercr.com. Thanks!
