One of the important tools in in getting debt collectors to stop calling you is to have them validate your debt. If they are not able to -- they have to stop contacting you, because if you file a complaint against them (complete with proof) they could be fined $1,000 plus damages.

Re: Getting Debt Collectors To Stop Calling YouI agree! The consumer can protect himself from abusive and overly aggressive collectors by studying his rights here:http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

Getting debt collectors to stop calling you (how to):-If you believe that there's been a mistake - if it's not your debt- do write the collectors a cease and desist letter. -If they persist, request for the debt to be validated.-Know that within 5 days after they first contact you, they are to also send you a letter containing your exact debt amount, your creditor, and what you can do to have that debt violated.

One sure way of getting those debt collectors to stop calling you is to file bankruptcy! But only if you really need to. Only after you have been to a sound financial/credit counseling - or if you are being sued, foreclosed, evicted, ...

I agree, reserve bankruptcy for those worst case scenarios. And another way of getting those debt collectors to stop calling you is to actually pay them what you owe (that is, if the debt has been validated).

There are two debt relief options for you depending on the amount that you owe and the account status. You can either do debt settlement or credit counseling. You can even negotiate your debt on your own. If you are dealing with your original creditors, ask for their hardship program. If you are open to professional help, like what was mentioned earlier - please feel free to share your case in the threads - or -Fill out a form here at destroydebt.com and avail of the free initial debt consultation.
