There are two things in a woman's life that she can't seem to live without - credit card debt and spouses! My question is how to get rid of both or .... okay, if the person you married have tons of credit card debt before you marry, would you also be liable to it? And then, if for some reason, you got enlightened and decide to file divorce - what happens to the credit card debt?

Hi there, about credit card debt and spouses ... I think the answer to this depends a lot on whether or not:-you live in a community property state-you co-signed the card

Hi, credit card debt incurred inside or during the marriage is shared by both of you - in a community property state - but then again, rule says that for a debt to be considered community property, it must have benefited the community ...

Other scenarios in the credit card debt and spouses topic would be - aside from divorce-when one of the spouses dies-when one of the spouses file for individual bankruptcy

Oh wow.. A topic that I am very familar with. In my situation, my ex-husband put me in debt. We had filed for bankruptcy and so forth. It was terrible. I have been divorced for about 6 years, and finally have decent credit. However, I was dumb and got together with a man that was equally irresponsible. I didn't know that at first, but it got worst. My credit is still good, but my debt is very high. However, I have a plan in place to help me. In regards to the credit after divorce, you are responsible for it as much as they are. During the divorce proceding, you need to contact the credit companies and explain the situation and ask them how they perceive the debt and how it would get reported if you pay off your portion and they do not.
