Hi I am planning on filing bankruptcy but I am abroad and won't be coming home anytime soon. Won't you tell me how? Thank you;

Filing Bankruptcy From AbroadFrom which state are you?You'd need to download the necessary forms/documents/papers on the website of the state/district that you are filing.You might want to seek the counsel of a bankruptcy attorney so you won't make mistakes or leave out important info. on those papers. Otherwise, your case might not go through.Call the court clerk and ask about filing fees and other info. about meetings and hearings.Mail the papers to the bankruptcy clerk (attach the filing fee and insert a pre-addressed/stamped return envelope so your copy of the petition can be sent to you.Again, you might want to consult with a bankruptcy attorney, this time with regard to your representation.

Hi are your debts mostly unsecured? If so, you don't have to file bankruptcy right away, not unless you have already been notified that a legal action is going to be taken against you.Why not try the alternatives to bankruptcy?Credit counseling or debt settlement.

Would the consumer filing bankruptcy from abroad be required to attend the creditors meeting?

I think so but I think the consumer must ask a bankruptcy lawyer about it.If it' really a secured debt though, perhaps the consumer should not file bankruptcy, because the creditor, knowing that a judgment cannot be enforced in another country, might not take that legal action.
