Credit card debt got me into trouble

hi,

i've heard a lot of sad stories about credit card debts but still i applied for one. thinking i will only use it for emergencies and a good credit history will come in handy.

i was happy when my credit card was approved. i don't bring it with me when i go shopping, saying to myself i'm in control. i will use it only when really necessary.

but then christmas came along. all these sales are too hard to resist! 30% OFF on the dvd player, 15% OFF on the docker's boutique!

then i say to my self, i will use it only this once. but i was so wrong, before i knew in i was over my head in credit card debt. i was only able to pay the minimum monthly, so my debt was not going down but going up because of interests.

i finally had the courage to admit to myself that i am in trouble. i had to borrow money from my parents (no interest) to pay my credit card debts. after 8 months i finally paid back my parents and i was relieved!

i learned that the promise of "instant gratification" offered by credit cards will only get you in financial trouble.

i also learned that the things we buy are more enjoyable if we saved and worked for it.

Glad to know you got it paid off. I still believe its a good idea to keep a credit card for emergencies, but it definitely requires self control.

^ We both have the same mentality when we first got our credit card. Like what I said credit card is like a temptation although we dont carry the cards along with us all the time we still manage to be comfortable enough to depend on those credit card. Glad that you were able to pay off all those debt. This is really a great lesson and I hope its an inspiration to all.

i definitely learned my lesson. and yeah, i'm still open to the idea of getting a credit card in the future. when i am convinced that i have self control:p

this credit card thing always makes me angry. i was also in the same situation once. after paying all my credit debt, i todl the company to take my credit card back. now i just enjoy the freedom of payment in cash. back to the basics i guess :)

it's glad that you finally paid it off, but i think it convince to have a card, it all depent on how you use it.

i have learned a lesson from the experience which is similar with you ,and now i am get out of it , i thing i need self-control.

Credit card enhances your purchasing power.It is a temptation for you to purchase even if it is beyond your means. It can put you into trouble if all you can pay is the minimum.

it will be ok if you just use it for emergencies. the rule is control yourself.

I have always found the freezer method works for me. Good for you for taking responsibility though!
