What are your suggestions for getting out of debt and staying out--for good?Learning to live via my means (income) and reducing my credit cards to just 2. Having the mentality  -- I can't spend what I don't have.

One way of getting out of debt and staying out is preparing a yearly budget. That way you would know where your income is properly allotted and helps you develop the discipline in spending.

Why not try having no credit cards at all, if getting out of debt and staying out of it is your main goal.

Another way of getting out of debt and staying out is by not incurring any more debt while you're in the process of paying off your bills.

But how can you go about getting out of debt and staying out of it for good if you have a very limited budget?

Then file for bankruptcy! it's easy as that.

Bankruptcy as a way of getting out of debt and staying out? Forget it. You have other options for that, like debt settlement and credit counseling. Nor is getting a loan the most feasible option available.

why is that?

Bankruptcy is not the most effective way of getting out of debt and staying out of it. Yes, it can help you eliminate everything you owe and start over, but it has drastic effects on your credit report. A bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for 7-10 years, depending on the chapter you've filed. Aside from that, it will be reflected on your public records for 20 years.
