The best company for debt consolidation should be affiliated with the Better Business Bureau, in order for you to be able to receive high quality service and assurance that the company complies with fair and just business standards.

The best company for debt consolidation should also not just be affiliated with the BBB but also with other regulatory agencies. This way you would know that this company indeed would be inclined to offer the best help that they can, and be able to enforce specific standards in their respective industries. The
NFCC if I am not mistaken serves as a regulatory agency for credit counseling companies.

You also want to make sure that the first thing they don't ask is "how do you plan to pay us to help you consolidate your debt". There are actually free non profit programs out there.

One of the most important things is that before entering a
debt consolidation program you need to speak with a non profit credit counselor who helps you create a budget. Unless the people recommending debt consolidation first help you create a budget and evaluate what is best for you should stay away from them.

How to choose the best company for debt consolidation- Credit Counseling Agencies (according to the BBB):-Before you select a credit counseling agency ask for information on the following:-Are the agency services confidential?-Will they devise a plan tailored to fit your needs?-Are the counselors certified?-Are budget and credit education opportunities offered?-Will your funds be protected? How?-Is the agency accredited?-Aside from BBB membership (www.bbb.org) the consumer should also check its affiliation with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling http://www.nfcc.org.
