Hi, this is just an advisory to those who have received an official looking envelope from the U.S. government -- talking about contacting them a.s.a.p. with regards to debt consolidation.Anybody else who knows about it, please share it with us here!

I don't know much about that Credit Relief Division scam myself but I read that it also goes by the line - Balance Reduction Notification or Consumer Debt Hardship Initiative 2009The government does not have such a division. Credit/debt relief solutions are privately run and not government sponsored. I think that the only debt relief program that's from the government is bankruptcy.

Is the Credit Relief Division a government organization? Or is it private?

I don't know...but any group that sort of piggy back rides the government name should not be trusted. There is an act or a law by the government with regards to credit cards, it's called Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009

Credit Relief Division is a scam.I agree with black sheep - debt relief is something that the consumer should seek and not the other way around. Even if it is not really a rule of thumb for the debt relief industry - I think that the truly credible companies would let the consumer contact them instead. And speaking of Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009= it's effective February 2010 the soonest.

Speaking of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act - credit card companies, according to that law, are to give consumers 45 days before increasing their interest rates, no more surprise increases. Also, the consumer's payment are to be first applied to the highest interest rate balance.

Forget that Credit Relief Division non-sense then. Here's a guideline for consumers looking for a legitimate debt settlement program:-The settlement company's program must have a fast completion time. 12-36 months.-The program must be able to protect and improve the consumer's credit standing.-Must be a member of the Better Business Bureau, BBB, for at least 5 years.-Must also have a good standing with the Chamber of Commerce-A Member of TASC - The Association Of Settlement Companies and the IAPDA or theInternational Association of Professional Debt Arbitrators

but doesn't the government offer any grants to help us out in our debt? No, they do not. Grants are given to organizations for various socio-civic purposes that would bring benefit to a certain group or community. They are rarely given to individuals, and they are not at all for the purposes of debt consolidation. If you want to receive relief from your debt, you can log on to the main page of the forum, which is DestroyDebt.com, and fill out a form there.
