Consumers who want to settle debt with American Express would be relieved to know that AmEx is one of the more accommodating creditors (relatively) out there. The question now is, how does one settle debt with American Express?Share your thoughts!

how does one settle debt with American Express?According to some professional debt consultants that I know if you settle with AmEx directly, you will get different percentages than a collection agency that has retained one of their accounts for collection.Question is, is it better to settle directly with AmEx or wait for the account to be passed on to the collection agency?

That's very confusing you guys..I thought that creditors don't do settlements? Unless it's of the hardship nature?

I heard that American Express has issued an announcement to third party collection agencies to not accept offers from debt settlement companies (working on behalf of the consumers) - is that true?

how does one settle debt with American Express?I'm not sure how much balance the consumer should have to do a d.i.y. settlement with AmEX...I suppose it's $10,000+ too? Also, if the consumer is current with the payments, he/she should stop payments until the accounts have gone past due.Speaking of debt settlement, destroydebt.com offers a free initial debt consultation, just fill out a form and get matched up to the right company, it is free of charge!

In my understanding, a consumer can also settle American Express debt if they hire the services of a third-party debt negotiation company.
