A lot of consumers are probably wondering what is the #1 debt consolidation company out there - but the truth is, there is no official ranking body for the debt relief industry yet, it's not even regulated yet too.But how how does one know that a debt consolidation company has what it takes to be the #1?Why is this important anyway?Share your thoughts!

I agree! The debt relief industry is not regulated that's why there are a lot of - if you can call it "malpractice" or complaints against certain companies. But how how does one know that a debt consolidation company has what it takes to be the #1?For one the company must be transparent and this could be achieved via having an informative and interactive website - active and competent customer service - and a program that makes sense.

But how how does one know that a debt consolidation company has what it takes to be the #1?For Credit Counseling Agencies (according to the BBB):-Before you select a credit counseling agency ask for information on the following:-Are the agency services confidential?-Will they devise a plan tailored to fit your needs?-Are the counselors certified?-Are budget and credit education opportunities offered?-Will your funds be protected? How?-Does the agency have accreditation?-Aside from BBB membership (www.bbb.org) the consumer should also check its affiliation with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling  http://www.nfcc.org.

But how how does one know that a debt consolidation company has what it takes to be the #1?Check for awards too and recognitions! I'm just not too sure what the award giving bodies are...but they usually post that in their websites.

One point to ponder: The fees that the #1 debt consolidation company charges. Do you have any idea how much they do?

Is the #1 debt consolidation company a nonprofit one? If so, then they shouldn't charge anything.
