Is the process any different on collecting charged off debts from collecting the ones that aren't as late?

Nice to Know You,
When you have a charged off debt collection efforts may either be one of the following:
1. Your account would be transferred to the creditor's in-house debt collection department.
2. The account would be transferred to a third party debt collector.
3. The account would be forwarded to a state attorney, or
4. The account would be sold to a junk debt buyer.

In the process of charged off debt collection, I know that some debt collectors contact the debtor and more often than not offer settlements, for these debts to be taken care of. Typically creditors are more forgiving in these cases, given that the debt already has been written off as a liability.

It depends on your agreement with your creditor. It's much easier to negotiate definitely, so you can come up with a payment that would work for both you and your creditor.
Sometimes it also works better if you hired the services of a professional debt negotiator, who can be able to come up with a better plan for you as a consumer.
