Can you claim bankruptcy on credit cards? Most definitely. Aside from that, though, you also have to declare all the debts that you have. If you have a mortgage, it's also necessary for you to include that when you file for bankruptcy, as well as your car loans and other debts from various sources..

...and that includes even the debts you owe from family members and friends. In the process of filing for bankruptcy, it is crucial that all your creditors are listed down. If you are not able to include a particular creditor on your list, you may have difficulty trying to include them in the discharge, or the request for their name to be added may not be granted at all. (please verify which of these two scenarios will occur though.)

What are the other myths about claiming/filing bankruptcy  whether it's for credit card debt or other secured debts?-you lose everything you own when you file bankruptcy - it's a disgrace to file - bankruptcy can't discharge medical bills

When you decide to file for bankruptcy, you are filing to discharge all of your debts.  This discharge serves to release you from any obligation to pay off most of your accrued debts and creditors. That being said, bankruptcy discharges not only your credit card debt but also affects most of your other debts (e.g., medical bills).  Please note that not all debt is discharged upon bankruptcy filing, therefore it is important to speak with a bankruptcy attorney to determine which of your debts are dischargeable. There is no debt threshold that must be met before you can file for bankruptcy.  If you are in debt and, considering your income and expenses, you are unable to pay off your debts, you may be eligible (subject to additional procedural requirements) to file for bankruptcy.
