Are any free debt relief grants available? Of course you all know how hard it is in these times and money doesn't really come to us that easily. I just wonder if I can avail of these things to get my debt taken care of already!

Don't get your hopes up-- there are no free debt relief grants from the government, from private institutions, or anywhere else. The government does offer grants for various purposes, but not necessarily for debt consolidation or debt relief purposes.

What you can do instead is consolidate your debt, or acquire funds through other available sources such as your 401(k).

Grants.gov explicitly states that they "(do) not offer money for personal financial assistance or debt," in the case of free debt relief grants for credit card or other types of debt consolidation

Neither do I see a listing of any sort of free debt relief grants on the USA.gov website.

There is however information on mortgages, which I find very informative. You can find all about them here.

If I can't get any of those free debt relief grants, then, how can I take care of my debt?

Very interesting thread. Since this is my area of expertise you can contact me directly for specific questions since I can't post all answers here. Thanks.

Hi Pom Pom,

That would be great if they had Grants for Debt, it is actually a great idea and one that is really needed in todays financial climate, but I doubt it will happen.

Your best option is Debt Settlement, and it is not difficult. I settled my debts for 43% of the balance on one, and 10% of the other. I also went through a foreclosure and less than1 yr later my Credit Score was back at 688. So, it can be done. If you want to get rid of the CC debt you might want to check out this easy book that walks you through the process.

I agree with Craig. Since you aren't able to avail of any free debr relief grants, what you can do is settle your debt. It will allow you to pay for less that you actually owe, for a time period much shorter than the usual time it takes for you to pay your debt.

What you can also do, given that you won't be able to gain access to any free debt relief grants, is fill out a form on top of the page, so you can be assisted by a qualified provider who can help you out better. The service is free as well.
