I believe the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a part of the federal protection laws for credit card debt. This Act protects consumers from harassment and unfair practices of debt collection agencies.

How about the FCRA or the Federal Credit Reporting Act? I believe it's also one of the federal protection laws for credit card debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is indeed one of the federal protection laws for credit card debt, especially for consumers. Caffeinatrix is right in stating the abovementioned. It exists to promote fair and honest debt collection practices. Aside from that, it provides guidelines for third party debt collections agencies to abide with.
