Can I declare bankruptcy for free? How to file or apply bankruptcy for free?I think it's never for free? There's no escaping the filing fee.

How to file or apply bankruptcy for free? You can declare bankruptcy for free, but I agree with the previous reply, you have to pay the filing fee -  as well as the services of a lawyer. Although there may be free legal consultations (pro bono) and what they call the attorney "bundled service."

How to declare bankruptcy for free -We can't answer that question. Instead if you're wondering how much it's going to cost you to file:$200 for a Chapter 7, and $185 for Chapter 13.

As for attorney fees -  Rates may be based on which state you are in- but it is typically in the $1,500 to $2,000 range for Chapter 7, and $2,500 to $4,000 for Chapter 13. The more work for the lawyer, the more the fees add up.

Although if you file Chapter 13, there's what they call a hardship discharge. You might want to look into that.

It's hard to be granted this hardship discharge though. You would have to give proof for your defaulting on your Chapter 13 repayment plan. And you know, you dont' have to file or declare bankruptcy if your debts are mostly unsecured anyway.

I agree, for your unsecured debts, try negotiating with your creditors. You can lower your interest rates or revise your payment plan. That or attempt to settle. If you can't do it yourself, enroll in credit counseling or debt settlement program. Destroydebt.com is willing to help you get matched up to the right program and the right company, just fill out a form. It's free.
