Do you already know what you're looking for in credit counselors? I think the qualification for non profit credit counseling agencies all over the states, not just New York City is the same:Are the agency services confidential? Will they devise a plan tailored to fit your needs? Are the counselors certified? Are budget and credit education opportunities offered? Will your funds be protected? How?Is the agency accredited?

Okay more on non profit credit counselors (credit counseling agencies):Credit counseling is about learning about how to better manage your finance but that might not solve your problem so you may need to enroll in their debt management plan. This is the free part.A DMP program aims to lower your interest rates with the credit card companies - as well as any late fees that your accounts have. This is the part that has a monthly service fee.
