I am going through the same thing, I am also wondering about the best ways to deal with debt. I am unemployed for a few weeks now and my savings are running out, I need to prioritize the bills i Hav to pay else I might lose my electricity. What do I do? I have $16,000 in credit card debt alone and I have other things to pay for as well.

Do you have disposable income or at least savings to get your debt taken care of? The best ways to get out of debt always include having extra money to spare for these debts to be settled or at least paid

Bankruptcy is not one of the best ways to deal with debt, because it will have long-lasting effects on your credit. It will stay on your report for 7-10 years depending on the chaper filed for.

It will stay on your report for 7-10 years depending on the chaper filed for.Aside from that it will remain on your public records for 20 years. Also, recovering from a bankruptcy takes much more effort to restore your credit on your part.

Best ways to deal with debt - credit card There are two popular and relatively effective debt relief programs for unsecured debts.Credit Counseling (Debt Management Plan) - This is for balances $10,000 and below, accounts current. The program's focus is reducing the interest rates.Debt Settlement - for balances $10,000 and above, accounts past due. The program focuses on reducing the balance itself to more or less half of the original amount. You can also negotiate/settle on your own.

Best ways to deal with debt - credit card - How to settle credit card debt that's over $10 000? - d.i.y.If you are not yet past due or behind on your accounts - stop your monthly payments, until you fall behind. Creditors don't negotiate.Brace yourself for the creditor calls - ignore those because in 6 months time, they are required by the law to write off the account, and they usually turn over the account to collection agencies. (you try to settle with them instead of the creditors)Make an offer that you can afford. Start with a very low percentage, lower than 50% and expect it to be refused. You make another one, it might get refused too. The longer your debt sits there, the cheaper its worth become.Take your time.Tell them you're filing bankruptcy. If they budge, make sure to get everything in writing before you send in payment.
