I've also heard of "Christian debt solution" companies and I want to find out how different they are from the conventional companies, and also, if I am able to receive more help from this sort of debt solution or what

Christian debt solution companies exist to be of help to consumers with their financial problems by using Bible-based techniques and teachings. Unfortunately, most of the companies that claim they are "Christian" are merely out to dupe people. This problem has gotten so bad that the Credit Info Center has discouraged consumers from availing their services.

The Credit Info Center's purpose in discouraging consumers from availing a Christian debt solution is not to create bias against Christians or to condemn them--rather, it was a warning for the consumers to keep away from companies that use the term "Christian" as a marketing strategy, to "gain people's trust."

Right. In 2002 the BBB was able to report 1480 complaints from Christian debt solution firms. It was a huge jump compared to the 261 complaints received by the Bureau in 1998.

What do we consumers need to watch out for, in regard to these Christian debt solution companies?

It is always important to check their BBB rating. The more complaints that these companies have, the more unlikely that they would offer you quality service.

They typically charge higher rates than other companies and are asking for fees that are more exorbitant...

What makes a Christian debt solution company different from the other ones out there?

They claim to have a faith-based approach in alleviating debt. A Christian debt solution unfortunately also has "questionable practices," according to the Consumer Federation of America.
For one these companies claim to have non-profit status. They also charge excessive costs, and falsely claim that fees are voluntary.
