What usually is your advice to consumers who are asking help for their debt?It really depends on several factors, generally:-the type of debt (secured or unsecured)-is the consumer already in need of the automatic stay provision?-is the consumer willing to enroll in a professional debt relief plan or would rather do-it-yourself?

Help for debt may also depend on what the consumer can afford:-does the consumer need financial assistance-or just counseling (direction, list of companies, etc.)

Help for debt -What does the consumer want to do? Reduce the debt or eliminate it? What is the consumer willing to do? In credit counseling, the debt would be reduced via the Debt Management Plan (monthly payments to the agency) and be eliminated in 3-5 years. With Debt settlement, the program would eliminate the debt in 12-36 months, and the monthly payment goes into an escrow account.
