I have an exorbitant amount of credit card debt--all largely due to things I would rather deem as forgetfulness--and I would want to know how I can go lowering credit card debt without having to go through a lot of drama and whatnot. I've been receiving a few calls here and there too so I just really want this to be gotten over with.

How to go about lowering credit card debt? There are a number of ways to do that. If you have savings, you can use these funds to pay off your debts without compromising your current expenses. You can also try borrowing from your family or friends, or from your 401(k). Another option for lowering credit card debt is by way of debt consolidation.

That's right. Debt consolidation helps in lowering credit card debt by allowing you to either pay for less than what is actually due, or extend the payment period for a certain amount of time.

Debt settlement will help in lowering credit card debt amounts, because through this method you will not be obliged to pay for the actual amount due. Rather, you will be paying for less than that, and your creditor will deem that payment as "settled."

What methods of debt consolidation will help in lowering credit card debt?Aside from what Karess mentioned about debt settlement, it will take 12-18 months before the settlement would be completed. Fees paid towards the debt settlement service would typically be 15% of the total debt amount, spread out over 18 months.

What methods of debt consolidation will help in lowering credit card debt? You can try obtaining a secured debt consolidation loan to help you. Making use of your home equity, if you have a home, may prove to be beneficial. As opposed to getting an unsecured debt consolidation loan, you would have to pay for a lower interest rate on this loan. Aside from that, the interest that you've paid on your home equity loan can be fully deductible on your next tax return.

What methods of debt consolidation will help in lowering credit card debt?I disagree with what was mentioned earlier. A home equity loan has the ability to make you lose your home in the event that you default on it. It is unwise, and I wouldn't recommend that you do it.

But the consumer said "exorbitant amount" of credit card debt, it could not just be below $10,000--I assume. Which debt consolidation option then is best for lowering credit card debts over $10,000?
