If your debt is of the unsecured kind, like your credit card bill-- lowering debt payments may come in the form of negotiation. If you can do it yourself, you won't have to spend on anything, just ask the creditors for their hardship program. Of course you are going to have to prove that hardship claim.

If your debt is $10,000 or less and it has high interest rates, lowering your debt payments may come in the form of an enrollment with a credit counseling agency's Debt Management Plan. What it does is negotiate your interest rates so you can get at your principle amount much quicker.

File bankruptcy. A lot of consumers file bankruptcy as the last resort- in lowering their debt payments (via Chapter 13), eliminating collection calls, avoiding foreclosure, eviction, & repo..or being sued for a judgment.

Options for lowering debt payments:Do a balance transfer -that is, if your credit is good, get a card with a lower interest rate than your other credit cards or try to get an extremely low or zero introductory interest rate.Try debt settlement - its program focuses on lowering your entire balance and as a result your monthly payments would be lowered too.

Debt settlement and lowering debt payments=To qualify for the settlement program, the consumers accounts would have to be past due and the amount of debt must total to $10,000 or more. Here's an example of how the consumer's payment can be lowered by debt settlement - If the balance is $10,000, the payment will be about $150.00/month. If the balance is $20,000, payment would be at about $300.00/month. That's a lot of difference from if the original minimum credit card payment, is for example, $800/month

Is there a way of lowering debt payments without having to pay for any services rendered or whatnot?

Nicky, one way for lowering debt payments without making payments for services rendered is by settling the debt yourself. Simply contacting your creditor and proposing a settlement will not cost you a penny. One disadvantage of this method, however, is that the creditors may not approve of your request for a settlement--and if they do, they may insist on an amount that would prove to be of more benefit to them than to you. It is understandable for them to do so, given that they are wanting their money back. Business is business after all.

Is there a way of lowering debt payments without having to pay for any services rendered or whatnot? You can try getting a non-profit debt solution for that

Not all the time, Rihanna. While non-profit debt solutions may help in lowering debt payments, some of these companies still charge a monthly fee, even if they have non-profit status to begin with. Usually they charge around $25-30 monthly.
