What are the best ways that a debtor such as myself can get out of debt? Where are the best places to seek help for debtors? It's quite a daunting task having to pay everything on your own especially if you're on a limited budget ..... I'm sure most of you would agree! Is there any way that help for debtors can be extended so we can be able to pay off our debts and live happy, secured financial lives?

Hi Theresita. Fortunately help for debtors is very much available. We're glad that you were able to drop by here at the forum. Hopefully we'll be able to provide you with the help that you need. For consumers who are in debt, various options are available. Obtaining funds through selling items, getting a loan, or acquiring an additional source of income is one. Debtors may also opt to consolidate their debt in order to help for payments. Bankruptcy may also be an option for eliminating debt, but it is best used when all other options are exhausted.

If you're seeking help for debtors, you've come to the right place ;)Karess is right. I'd like to add what she said on bankruptcy, too. Bankruptcy shouldn't exactly be the immediate solution to anyone's debt problems because, at the end of the day, it may do you more harm than good. Depending on the chapter that you've filed for, a bankruptcy notation will stay on your credit report for 7-10 years, and on your public records for 20.

Debt consolidation may be the "help for debtors" that you need--it allows you to pay your debts a little each time, and get out of debt within a certain period of time. If a debtor settles his debt, he will pay for less than what is the actual due amount, within a time period of a year to a year and a half. On the other hand, if a debtor opts for credit counseling, all his debts would be consolidated into one major debt, and he may be  given the opportunity not to pay for interest and other fees. Additionally it will take five years before his debts would be paid off.

Is there any way that one can get non-profit help for debtors?

Yes, Mei Mei, non-profit help for debtors is available--by way of credit counseling agencies. But more often than not, even the non-profit companies charge a monthly maintenance fee of $25-30 monthly.

How about reputable, non-scammy help for debtors? Is that possible?

Huh? How can the BBB offer help for debtors? Aren't they a regulatory company or something?
