If you are doing debt settlement (do-it-yourself) with debt collection agencies make sure to have everything in writing. A settlement letter means that the creditors have agreed to settle for a certain amount and it usually signals you, the consumer, paying them that amount. If the creditors refuse to provide you with a settlement letter even if you request for it, it means that they are not taking you seriously. You might want to try a professional debt settlement service instead.
