Hi, can you give me some really practical tips on lowering my bills? I'm afraid I did not learn those at home and in school and now..I dunno. I'm always playing catch up with payments.

Hey Eric, one tip on lowering your bills.. try asking around - find out if any of the people you know have switched providers to save some money. Also, call your service providers and ask if you can switch programs because you want to save- more likely than not, they'd help you out. It's better than lose your subscription.

Lowering your bills..

I agree with the above poster, challenge your current provider by shopping around for other providers, if you find one that gives a lower price, let your current provider know and then see where it goes. Forget loyalty, go with what's going to help you save.

One way of lowering your bills is finding out that you are being charged or been paying for services that you did not subscribe to or did not receive. Also do remove the services that you do not need. Discontinue using the ones that you can't afford anymore.

A very timely thread this is, lowering bills:

I say, ask around for combined services like cable, phone and internet connection in one, more and more providers are realizing that not only it is convenient..it is also cheaper.

One way of lowering your phone bills is to get rid of your land line if you are using a cell plan anyway. Ask your cellular company if you can keep your old number if you want. And don't forget to check if your provider supports the local 911 service.

Those are lowering bills for service providers, how about for insurance?

Lowering bills for insurance? If it's  for car insurance or newspaper subscriptions--why not pay them annually. Paying up front gives consumers discounts. Use one insurer too for your your car and home.

Lowering bills for those under medication.

Unless your doctor specifically orders a certain brand, purchase generic prescriptions instead. Never hesitate to ask your physician and pharmacist for a cheaper version of the same drugs.

Because the topic is lowering bills, although you might not expect this of a czar...my advice is to cut out coupons in newspapers and magazines and look for grocery store coupons online too.
