I don't know why college education is not free, if you ask me. I know we are in a capitalist environment and all and therefore nothing is free but for people who can't afford to pay the product of this so called capitalism - overwhelming debt, the government at least has bankruptcy but can bankruptcy cover student loans?

But the answer to your question, can bankruptcy cover student loans? - is no. Unless you can show "substantial hardship." It means that you really are not able to maintain a minimally adequate standard of living and repay the loan too.

can bankruptcy cover student loans? possibly -- but it can be contested by the creditors, although the burden of proof is on the creditors themeselves.

I see, thank you gentlemen. And at least there's a federal regulation that restricts the amount to be garnished (from the wages) to 10% in repayment of student loans. Would the lenders have the right to intercept my tax refunds?

To correct Mister Marx, Can bankruptcy cover student loans? Via the hardship program, yes, otherwise, No.

In 2004, 35 % of all first-year students were paying for their own education in state institutions and 20 % were enrolled in private universities. -- I'm sure that saddens you, as your Russia is fast acquiring the evils of the west...one of which is being forever in debt.
It's a good thing that there is such a thing as alternative debt relief options. There's always debt settlement..

Can the consumer be sued for judgment?-for not being able to repay the student loan?
