I am concerned about this because I believe my credit report is a public document and as such it is a private matter. I would not appreciate it if they did indeed locate information on it for their use.Can a debt collector pull your credit report?

Yes, a debt collector can do so, and in my understanding, this is for fact-finding purposes.

Re: Can a debt collector pull your credit report? - You mean to ask if it's legal to pull your report without your permission? - It is legal.

I agree with that - there are 2 types of inquiries though. Authorized and unauthorized The latter will pull down your score but you can request for it to be removed... if you are sure that it was pulled for no legitimate reason.

Just to add to that, the authorized ones appear and stay on your credit report for 12-24 months but they do not affect your credit score.
