I opened a Citi business card 2 years ago. Five months later, I moved and some time thereafter I activated the card andused it. I have 3 Citi cards and all the addresses have been updated.Six-eight months later, I get a collection call. I responded, thusmust be a joke.I got a letter few weeks later, saying this particular citi card hasbeen charged off and in collection. I tried to reach Citi—half therepresentation said, it’s been charged off; we have no record. Onesaid, your address was never updated, so when we did send statement,it got kicked back to us. Well I told them how come all the other Citicards were updated—they couldn’t respond with cerntanty (said maybe Citi business operates independently, so not all of your Citi cards were simultaneously updated in the system). I obviously use multiplecredit cards. I didn’t realize I didn’t receive the statement for thiscard. As the representative recommended, I wrote Citi via mail explainingwhat happened and that provided I see the original statements, I wouldbe happy to pay it off if they waive any interest that accumulated. Igot no response. I followed up two months later via phone againexplained what happened. This time they recommended, I fax them thelater, which I did.Two weeks ago, I get another collection agency call saying I owe them$7xx dollars (has to be mostly from interest--since I don't purchasestuff over 300 on cards). I told them I am not paying anything until Isee my statements. They said they would report it to credit agency andmaybe send to court.I am not sure what to do…plz plz help I don't want interest growing but I don't want to blindly pay them money not knowing if I really charged it either.I have never had this happen to me. I have a good credit score too.

Hey there- sorryt o hear about your situation. It sounds like at some point in the past you may have missed a monthly payment and fell behind? That is the only way a debt would charge off and be sent to collections. If you have any old records (perhaps online?) that may help you determine whether or not you owe the money. If you do, you could potentially settle the debt with NCO for a reduction of what is owed since you are behind on monthly payments. Or, you could see what your options are for a payment plan if funds are not accessible. I would say that their threats of sending it to court at this time are just to scare you. Most likely, if Citi was serious about pursuing legal action, they would have sent the account to an attorney who is licensed in your state for collection.
