Maybe you mean a non-profit debt reduction program? Because there's no such thing as a free debt reduction program. The ones available on the market are non-profit, and even so, they still charge a few fees.

Oh so that's what it's called. There are no such things as free debt reduction programs then?  How can I qualify for such non- profit programs? I am a struggling single mom and I have $13k in debt. I have not been able to pay for my debts because i prioritized the rent and utilities and my child's education. I hope this situation can be rectified soon.

If you want to partake of a free reduction program, one way to do it is thru the do-it-yourself method. All you have to do is contact your creditors directly and negotiate the terms of your payment with them, and get to a desired compromise that you are able to pay within a certain period of time, and the creditor would be willing to accept. It's pretty simple if you think about it, but for the most part, some creditors aren't really very forgiving in these kinds of situations, and they may ask for more than you can actually pay for.

You can go for the do it yourself method but it is not 100% advisable. You may end up paying more than you can afford since your creditor would want you to pay back the loan in full in one lump sum--and if you tried to negotiate, they may want you to comply only on their terms.
