Hi, what is your opinion of debt solutions as seen on tv? If they have advertising money..does it mean that they are credible?

Well ..you can always check their company profile in the BBB http://www.bbb.org/The privately run debt relief solutions available for consumers are debt consolidation loans, credit counseling, debt settlement, and bankruptcy. Bankruptcy should be the last option, and by the way, it is a government authored debt solution so you would not find it in the BBB website.

If you choose debt settlement as your debt solution, do check the company's membership at the TASC website , http://www.tascsite.org. TASC stands for The Association of Debt Settlement Companies. A membership in it guarantees credibility.

Just to add to itsnatasha's comment, you can also check their membership at Chamber of Commerce.and the US Chamber of Commerce. As for the credit counseling agency check if it is accredited by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, most especially if the company claims to be non-profit. You can check them out at this site http://www.nfcc.org

My opinion of debt solutions as seen on TV is not that jaundiced...as all products and services need to be advertised and promoted. If for example, a debt relief company says that they can reduce your debt amount into half..it's not that they are lying..it is possible to reduce it via negotiation..and it is legitimate too. However, if they say "quick and easy"...they are definitely lying.
