I received a letter saying they weren't working with my debt counselor but I gave my debt counselor all my bills.Aren't they supposed to be sending the payments to all the companies I listed?? Then I call my debt counseling company and they said they haven't accepted the proposal. What the heck does that mean?? Am I going to go deeper into debt?? My debt counseling company never even called me to say the credit card company has acccepted the proposal.I don't get it.Aren't I paying the debt counseling people to get me out of debt. What is going on? What is a proposal?? I cannot afford to pay it.That is why I entered debt management to pay off all my debt. Someone please help!

It is a standard procedure for credit counseling companies to send a proposal to the creditors, stating necessary information pertaining to payment of your bills. You may need to wait it out a few weeks to a month prior to sending payments to the credit counseling agency. It is typically not advisable for a consumer to start sending payments to the credit counseling company that they are working with, until the creditor has approved of the proposed plan. As a customer, verifying if this information with your creditor is accurate is a must; one also needs to find out when the promised changes have taken effect.

A credit card company not working with your debt counselor is a problem that many face. What a lot of people do not realize prior to enrolling with a credit counseling agency is that not all creditors agree to work with such an agency and actually lower the interest rates. As a result, a lot of those clients tend to wait around for something good to happen- only to find out it won't. That is the primary reason why the success rate for credit counseling is not high.

Unfortunately, if your credit card company is not working with your debt counselor, you should approach the counselor and confront him about the situation. Let he or she know that if they are not confident your rate or rates can be dropped that you will have to pursue alternative options. Then, you in terms of what option would work best, it really depends on who and how much you owe, as well as what your financial resources are. If you would like to share with me those things I can provide some additional insight.
