Some of us may be considering bankruptcy given current hardships, and one of their main concerns may be this: "how long does it take to file bankruptcy?" Hope some of you may be able to shed light on the matter. Thanks

I've tried doing this, I asked some bankruptcy attys in my area, was informed that it would take around 4-6 mos before my debts were to be discharged, under the Chapter 7 that is, so I declined. truth be told i wanted an easy and quick solition and bankruptcy wasnt that per se.Now i'm wondering if it applies to every state or in just some particular areas.

To address the issue of how long does it take to file bankruptcy:For the most part the duration of filing bankruptcy may vary depending on how complex your case is. Some cases take as short as a month and as long as 4 months. After that, you need to give it an additional three weeks to a month for a meeting with the bankruptcy trustee and probably the creditors, after which you'll hear from the creditors after 60 more days. By the 62nd-63rd day you'll be able to hear feedback on which debts have been discharged or not.

Do you mean you don't understand how Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy work?
