I am caught up on my bills and am pretty confident that credit counseling is the best option for me. I've done my research on this but it seems that I also need some more input out there. Could you give me a sample list of the companies with the best credit counseling programs? Thank you and have a nice day

Personally I won't be able to give you a comprehensive list on the best credit counseling programs out there, as each company has their own good points and bad points. However one good way to gauge a company's performance is to check its record with the Better Business Bureau at their web site, http://www.bbb.org. Picking a company that has a minimal number of complaints and has been in the business for quite some time now (preferably 10 years or more) is a safe bet.

Another safe bet would be enrolling your acct in a company accredited by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, especially if the company is non-profit. That way, you would be sure that the company is complying with the industry's standards on quality, excellence, and integrity. You may know more about the Foundation on http://www.nfcc.org

What do you guys think of FReedom Debt Relief? I am hearing good things about them and was wondering if you'd say the same, or if I should seek other companies for my credit counseling needs....

Freedom Debt Relief is a debt settlement company, not a credit counseling company. You can check them out on the Better Business Bureau's website (bbb.org).

What are the best credit counseling programs out there?

I think the ones that have full disclosure contract. The ones that are upfront with their services and fees. The ones that have customer representatives that can answer the consumer's inquiries.

I agree with that, it's good to ask about what the best credit counseling programs are out there, because credit counseling has become a world that's teeming with fraud, malpractice (if you may call it that) and controversy. Debt counseling is a legitimate business with players that are not all legitimate.

The best credit counseling programs are also keen on explaining matters on your contract. If a  company representative would hurriedly go over the terms of the contract with you without further explanation of whatever is discussed in the agreement, you may run the risk of working with a fraudulent or "scam" organization.

How much do the best credit counseling programs ask for a monthly free?

It depends. But what I can say is, even the non-profit companies charge a certain amount, which is around $25-30, which is quite ironic considering that they are "non-profit."
