They're affiliated with the Association of Settlement Companies. Having third-party accreditation from a regulatory body is always a good thing--you'll know that the company has standards that aim to provide top quality services for their clients.Debtmerica has actually been very helpful also in taking care of people's debt. In December of last year the company helped out a thousand consumers to settle their debts with different creditors. You can read more on Debtmerica's efforts on this news article: http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS175505+15-Jan-2009+PRN20090115

That seems to be so noble of them. Are they a non-profit company?

Debtmerica isnt a non-profit company, in fact they charge 15% from the debtor as a set-up fee. Another thing I think is notable abt Debtmerica is that they do not guarantee that collections calls would stop, although they can be able to negotiate even that fact to your creditors. Sounds good to me.

Well the BBB seems to think otherwise. They've given Debtmerica a big fat F. Here's the corresponding explanation of the rating:"We strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices. "Given that the feedback was from the Better Business Bureau itself, I would pretty much use this as a gauge on choosing the right debt settlement companies for me.

The nature of their complaints also deal with compliance to the contract that they have. Given that the BBB's standards uphold trust and integrity between businesses and consumers, I believe this is a very big deal. As noble as they seem to be, the numbers that we receive speak differently. You can actually receive help in regard to your current financial situation. Fill out a form on DestroyDebt.com and you'll be matched with a qualified provider. Consultation is free so you won't worry about a thing.

Debt America and Debtmerica are two different companies, though DebtAmerica.com redirects to the former's website. Debt America is another name for Legacy Asset Management LLC, another debt consolidation company that deals with credit counseling.

And just so you know, Legacy Asset Management actually has an A- with the BBB.

Oh? Debt America and Legacy Asset Management are one and the same? What is the reason behind their making a bad company and a good company? Is that planned or..the other one just has bad management..
