Uggh! There are debt collectors calling my cell phone too! Is it worth getting a new cell phone number?

Hi Elaine. David's right, you really are better off paying your bill. Besides, they will still be able to locate your whereabouts and contact information. They do it thru a process called "skiptracing."

If you don't want debt collectors calling your cellphone, write them a cease and desist letter - or you can having a representation. Like an enrollment in a settlement program. It won't stop it all together but it can minimize it. You can also try challenging the debt. Prove that it's not yours or the SoL on it has passed..

David while I agree that the best solution is to pay the bill that is not always as easy as you are making it sound. Things happen things go wrong. Just because someone is going through a hard time and cannot pay a bill at that moment does not mean they should be harrassed. These people are stressng enough on these debts without being reminded every day by a debt collecter.

It is normal for debt collectors to be calling your cellphone especially if you cannot be reached via your home phone. Just to repeat, they may not harass you over the phone, in letters, or even in person. As to what constitutes harassment - you may read here:
