Debt Settlement Resource Guide

I don't think it is that important for the consumer to consult with a debt settlement resource guide--if he/she is looking for a refutable or good debt settlement company. What's important is for the consumer to check with the BBB and TASC if the company is legitimate. Afterwards, he/she can call them up and ask questions.

The following questions can be a guide for consumers who are looking at debt settlement as a debt relief option:
-Does the settlement company offer any service guarantee? What are these guarantees?
-Should any unfortunate event happen to the consumer or to the account itself, would the settlement company still collect the full fee from the consumer, especially if no settlement has happened?
-How would debt settlement affect the credit?

Destroydebt.com is a good guide or a resource for anything debt settlement...
Speaking of debt settlement--with regards to fees, settlement companies will usually charge 15% of the total debt amount, spread over 18 months or a percentage of the settlement amount, usually between 20-25%.
Anything higher than that is dodgy.

Debt settlement is ideal for debts that amount to $10,000 and above and for accounts that are already past due. An enrollment in the settlement program, in a way, guides the consumers resources into where it's supposed to go--elimination of debt.
