Hi guys, would you know if debt settlement resource guide is credible?

'You mean the debt settlement resource guide website? I checked it and it says: "We have encountered everything from the good, the bad, and the ugly, and even the down-right fraudulent.."
And I have absolutely no idea how to answer your question, except that if they claim that they have done their research, and listed the refutable debt settlement companies out there, and there are no or very little complaints against them...then maybe their list could be worth something...

what you just made me do is go to that website and check! and this is what I've found:
"The information contained in the Top Debt Settlement Companies and Program Fees
page was established by cross referencing active
T.A.S.C. members against the underlying company’s
Better Business Bureau report. Debt settlement companies which maintained an A or B were then
evaluated on the number and type of complaints filed and how long the company has been in business. D.S.R.G. then called the company posing as a potential client with $35,000 in credit card debt.
The company was then ranked according to service fees, account fees, and how honest and upfront the sales agent was in disclosing these fees."
'sounds good to me?

Hey Miley...did you really mean the website or debt settlement resource guide/s in general?
If it is the latter, then might as well go directly to T.A.S.C. at least you wouldn't be accusing them of advertising or promoting/favoring certain companies...'just saying, I don't know how to answer your question either..

itsnatasha can be so skeptical, but she has a point...if you think about it, the question is not- if their list is credible or not, as they get it from the B.B.B. and T.A.S.C.
the question becomes...how much did those companies (the ones included in their list) ,if they at all did, pay them for the advertisement and endorsement?

what's with the skepticism you guys? and are we seriously reviewing this site??? aha, Miley?Serious...are you advertising that site on here? just kidding. i'll see now how i can contribute to the skeptics posts..

I can't fault an A+ score card from the BBB. That site's number 1 debt settlement company looks good to me.

Well...did they put up a disclaimer or something regarding how they choose the best debt settlement companies out there? And wait a minute, does it really matter?
I think that the concern is not- whether or not the consumer is going to be scammed by any of the companies in their list anymore- it's how well the company that was matched up to the consumer would be able to settle the consumer's debt.
And that is always, a case to case basis.

i think one way to find out if it's credible is if the consumer groups actually endorsed them?...i have no idea how that would happen, i dont even know if consumer groups are pro debt settlement agencies or not. the debt settlement business/industry is pretty young--and i think that guides or listings like that actually help the industry...i just don't know if it helps the consumers any..
i also checked the website and it always says " from a consumer standpoint." meaning they are not only concerned about their own company and the debt settlement industry...but they are also concerned about the consumer. a happy consumer translates to a happy industry right?

You have an interesting conversation going on here! And speaking of debt settlement resource guide...destroydebt.com/forum can be one. It educates the consumer about debt settlement companies (what it's about, what to look for in a company, what to expect, etc.) and other financial issues related to it. It offers free consultation and expert debt advice. And as I can see-- the members are doing their best (research) to answer debt (and sometimes non-debt related) questions as well.
A learned consumer does not need a debt settlement resource guide if he/she knows what to look for in a debt settlement company. It comes down to which one fits his/her needs...or which ones he/she (after checking the track record) would LIKE to work with. It sometimes boils down to rapport.
I did go to that web site and it says that one of the reasons, why they've placed those companies on their top list, is the customer service, aside from the transparency-with fees and services, success rate, etc.
I think that it is a legitimate source though.
