You also need to be making payments on your debt management program in amounts that you can afford. If I'm not mistaken, the maximum amount should at least be $50 per month. If you're paying any amount that you can hardly afford, you're basically defeating the purpose of why you applied for a credit counselor in the first place.

But don't the non-profit dudes also charge like a monthly maintenance fee? what's the beef on that?

Yes, they do--around $25-30 per month. Quite perplexing to be honest how they state that they are non-profit yet are requiring payments from the customers....
